On His Terms | Monica McNeill Photography, Dallas Children's Photography

There was a period where my camera was met with a scowl and a dodge. Even though there was never a "look here" or "stand there" he was still acutely aware of the lens pointed at him. So I gave him his space to grow comfortable in his skin and turned my lens to the littles.

Then one day he asked why I didn't take photographs of him anymore and I explained that I was respecting his request not to.

He said to me "oh Mom, that period is over." My heart skipped a beat and I smiled knowing my original muse would be in front of my lens again.

There will still never be a "look here" or "stand there" but there will be many, many captures of the boy who made me a Mama.
